Privacy Policy
This is the same Privacy Policy shown in the app under Settings → Privacy Policy. It describes what aroundthego actually does, not a template — every line below matches a field the app really writes.
The short version
We collect what we need to show you events and let you talk to people going to them, plus a record of which features you use so we can fix what's broken. We don't sell your data, we don't track you across other apps, and we don't send your location anywhere.
What you give us
Account: your email address and a password (stored hashed — we never see it).
Profile: your display name, birthdate, and optionally a bio, photos, and answers to icebreaker prompts.
Taste: the genres and artists you pick, which is how we decide what to show you.
Activity: which events you mark yourself interested in or going to, which rooms you join, and the messages you send in them.
Submissions: if you submit an event, the details you enter about it.
Reports: if you report someone, what you reported and why.
What the app records as you use it
We log which screens and features you use — that you opened an event, joined a room, applied a filter, tapped through to tickets, finished signing up. Each entry is tied to your account.
What these never contain: message text, anything else you typed, your birthdate, or your location. The app only records short single-word values like an event id or a category name, so a sentence can't get through.
We use this to see which parts of the app people actually use and to fix what's broken. We don't sell it, we don't use it to advertise to you, and it doesn't leave our own servers — there is no third-party analytics company involved.
We delete these entries after 180 days. If you delete your account sooner, we immediately unlink them from you — what's left is a record that something happened, with no way to tell it was you.
Why we need your birthdate
Your birthdate sets what you can access: accounts under 18 can't join rooms or send messages, and 21+ venues are hidden from accounts under 21.
We use it only for that and for giveaway eligibility. We don't show your birthdate or your exact age to other users.
Location
We never receive your location. It goes to your phone's map, and nowhere else.
If you allow it, your phone works out how far each event is from you, on the device. Those coordinates are held in memory while the app is open, are never sent to our servers, are never stored in your account, and are never shown to another person.
The one thing that leaves your phone is the map itself. Maps are drawn by Apple on iPhone and by Google on Android, and to draw the area around you they have to know roughly where that is. That is between you and them under their privacy policies — we don't see it, and we don't get told what you looked at. If you'd rather not, say no to location: the map still works, it just opens on the neighbourhood instead of on you.
If you say no to location entirely, everything else still works. Events are organised by neighbourhood, and you tell us your city once at signup — that's what we fall back to.
What we don't collect
We don't have advertising trackers in the app, we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we don't build advertising profiles.
We don't ask for your contacts, your photo library beyond the pictures you deliberately pick, your microphone, or your calendar.
We don't use AI. What we show you first is decided by arithmetic we wrote down — how soon an event is, how far away, whether it matches what you picked, whether anyone you know is going. There's no model, and nothing you do here trains one.
What other people see
Your display name, photos, bio, prompt answers, and the genres and artists you picked are visible to other users in rooms you join and in event member lists.
Messages you send in a room are visible to everyone in that room. Rooms are group chats, not private messages — treat them that way.
You can hide yourself from room member lists in Settings → Privacy.
Sending a wish ticket
Your wishlist is private. Nobody can see it unless you choose to send one.
When you send a wish ticket, we create a link to a web page showing that event and your display name. Anyone who has the link can open that page — they do not need an account or the app, and the page is not listed in search engines.
The link stays live until you stop sharing it, which you can do at any time. You must be 18 or over to send one; keeping a wishlist has no age limit.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We use a small number of service providers to run the app, and they're only allowed to use your data to provide their service to us:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and realtime chat infrastructure
- Supabase Storage — profile photos
When you tap through to buy a ticket, you leave aroundthego and go to a third party (currently Ticketmaster). We don't send them your profile, but they may know you arrived from us, and once you're there their privacy policy applies, not this one.
We'll disclose information if we're legally required to, or where we believe in good faith it's necessary to prevent serious harm.
How long we keep it
Messages in an event room are deleted automatically 7 days after the event. Genre and artist rooms don't end, so those messages are kept on a rolling 90-day window and then deleted.
We do this on purpose. A room for a show that happened last year has no reader, and an indefinite log of who went where, with whom, and what they said about it isn't something we want to be holding.
The exception is content you or someone else reports. A reported message is kept while we review it, and for up to 90 days after we've dealt with it, so we can still act on a complaint and handle any follow-up. After that it's deleted too.
Your profile stays until you delete it or delete your account.
When you delete your account, we remove your profile, messages, and photos. Copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period before being overwritten, and we keep the minimum records we're legally required to keep — for example, records relating to a giveaway prize.
Reports you file are kept after your account is deleted, without your identifying details, so we don't lose a record of a safety issue when someone leaves.
Your choices and rights
In the app you can edit or delete your profile information, turn off notifications, hide yourself from room lists, pause your account, and permanently delete your account from Settings → Delete account.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, request correction or deletion, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. California residents have these rights under the CCPA/CPRA. We honor these requests from anyone who asks, regardless of where they live.
To make a request, email support@aroundthego.com.
Users under 18
aroundthego is not for children. You must be at least 16 to have an account, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Accounts under 18 cannot join rooms or send messages at all, so they don't generate message data.
If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, email support@aroundthego.com and we'll remove it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed by our authentication provider, and access to user data is restricted at the database level so one account can't read another's private data.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach affecting your information, we'll notify you as required by law.
Changes
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
